On Saturday 21st November 2015, the first Trans Film Fest Stockholm took place on the day after Trans Day of Remembrance*, and has been held every year since then.
The intention was to create safe and cosy spaces to watch films together, to see films not usually screened in cinemas, to reflect upon our diverse experiences, and through the collective experience of film to nurture community.
The films we choose to show are intended to uplift and encourage.
The film selection is always a collective activity by volunteers from our membership, and your participation is welcome and encouraged.
During the pandemic, Trans Film Fest Stockholm first became an online event, and then a hybrid online-physical gathering.
Trans Film Fest Stockholm is one of Europe’s longest running trans film festivals. And we’re not going to stop anytime soon!
We hope to see you there!
The next Trans Film Festival is planned to be in the spring of 2023. Submission is open now, but if you submit a film for consideration, please be patient. Selection takes time, and we are currently focused on Transfesten (‘The Trans Party’) during Stockholm Pride.
* [Held since 1999, Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR) is an international day to commemorate people who have been killed as a result of their gender identity and/or to highlight the violence experienced by trans and gender-diverse communities. Different community events are held around the world, bringing people together to engage with and support each other.]
