After months of planning, we would like to announce our film programme & share some further information about the 4th Edition of TFFS, which will take place in Stockholm on 22-25 November.

* Home / 4 mins / Sweden / 2017 / Charlie Peck This video is a true “once in a lifetime” experience. I am singing a duet with myself where one voice is recorded on my first day of testosterone treatment & the second voice 9 months later. The song is a tribute to the trans* community, but also to myself. It is a reminder that things actually do get better.

* Baby / 5 mins / Germany & USA / 2018 / Evie Snax Baby is an intimate dance, performance art, & erotica short film born in collaboration between Mathilde Manon, myself, & my camera. Mathilde integrates her practice of the Klein Technique of dance, kink, & sexuality with her physical gender transition. The film explores our romance, mutual obsession, practices of radical self love, softness, & lesbionic vanity.

* Missed Connections / 16 mins / USA / 2017 / Michelle Sam Two strangers meet & form a bond at a festival, but they forget to exchange contact info. As they search for one another in the real world, their posts go viral, as they navigate their careers, lives, & societyʼs expectations of them as Black, female, & transgender. A LGBT love story.
* Dani Boi / 6 mins / Australia / 2018 / Logan Mucha Dani is a non-binary ‘dragtivist’ of Sri Lankan heritage. Living in San Francisco, they began to explore their relationship to sexuality & gender. After a lip-sync battle win, Dani Boi emerged: a drag king challenging oppressive gender norms. Between chaotic onstage performances & their own personal struggles, Dani fights to be a vital voice for a community in need.
* Something Said / 8 mins / UK / 2017 / Jay Bernard The New Cross Fire was a major tragedy in 1981 that claimed the lives of 13 young black people & was initially met with state, media & police indifference. Haunted by that history, & in the context of the recent rise of the far-right & the tragedy of Grenfell, Something Said is an imaginative, gestural letter to Yvonne Ruddock, the 16 year-old whose birthday was being celebrated the night of the fire. Writer, performer & director Jay Bernard undertakes a queer exploration of black British history, starting with this particular moment in time & examining its ramifications at two scales: the larger social & political rupture that followed the fire, & the smaller, individual attempt to reconcile one’s queer present & the black radical past.
* Happy Birthday, Marsha! / 14 mins / USA / 2017 / Reina Gossett & Sasha Wortzel Happy Birthday, Marsha! imagines iconic transgender artist & activist, Marsha ‘Pay it No Mind’ Johnson in the hours before the Stonewall Riots in New York City when drag queens & trans women fought back against enduring police brutality. Starring Independent Spirit Award Winner Mya Taylor with cinematography by Arthur Jafa, Happy Birthday, Marsha! weaves rare found footage of Marsha shot in 1991, just a year before her untimely death, with the historical events of 1969.
* Jordy in Transitland / 6 mins / The Netherlands / 2016 / Willem Timmers (Dutch with English subtitles) Jordy is on the brink of her physical transition. Especially now, wandering in the realm between man and woman, she feels that the dichotomy is more poignant than ever. Must she conform herself to fit in? And what is the price for doing so? A modern, raw fairytale as a poetic protest against today’s parochialism.

* Southern for Pussy / 5 mins / USA / 2015 / Zachary Drucker Over a long weekend, a mother & daughter discuss thinning vaginal walls & humiliate a handsome stranger.
* Swarm of Selenium / 23 mins / Canada & Germany / 2017 / Maude Matton & SJ Rahatoka In the surreal dystopian present, two groups of friends cohabit the shells of an abandoned malt factory. As a troubling pattern begins to emerge from their mouths in the form of shattered glass, all are shaken, but some are hit harder than others. Through dance, visual work, & anti- work, they merge forces to try to care for one another & combat the insidious violent process which seems to increasingly come from within. Swarm of Selenium is a queer sci-fi short film about collective healing, trauma, & other world-making. It was shot in Berlin in Spring 2016 by a crew of more than 40 women, non-binary & trans artists from Montreal, Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Marseilles & Minneapolis.

Through song, Adri reconciles the struggle of wanting to belt out her truth while not wanting to risk her relationship with her religious mother. With the support of her best friend, she perseveres.
* The Things That Make Us / 3 mins / UK / 2017 / Fox Fisher A film about two trans people & their journey to learning to love their bodies.
* Flash Flood / 6 mins / Canada / 2017 / Alli MacKay Deep within a dream, a cataclysmic flood washes over the planet, & reveals three unique perspectives on gender & identity. The film is animated by volunteer transgender artists & animators from across the globe.
* TransBlack / 20 mins / Australia / 2017 / Charmaine Ingram Following the day-to-day lives of two Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island transgender people, these larger than life characters push the boundaries of social norms. They’re successful black Australians making a difference despite coming from remote communities, battling taboo views & acceptance, & appropriate healthcare access. They are part of the Facebook support & advocacy group, Sistergirls & Brothaboys, who celebrate gender, intersex & sexuality diversity. Letting go of the past, accepting yourself, forgiving those who don’t understand & being fabulously transgender.
* Rebellious Essence / 5 mins / Slovenia / 2017 / Ana Čigon A cat walks into the Office of the Ministry for Cat Affairs & requests for a passport. All goes pretty well until the female & male cat clerks demand to know the cat’s sex.
* A Small Part of Me / 15 mins / Canada / 2016 / Sean Horlor & Steve Adams A transgender teen prepares to make his acting debut playing a male leading character in a youth play. While rehearsals are in progress, his friends & chosen family band together to help remove him from a difficult living situation. A short documentary about coming out & coming-of-age in a small mountain town in British Columbia.
* Mrs McCutcheon / 17 mins / Australia / 2017 / John Sheedy A heartfelt coming-of-age story about Tom – a 10-year-old who prefers the name Mrs McCutcheon – as they embark on a journey of self-discovery.
* Love Letter to Isak, Liam, Wissam, Ilon, Suma, Elize, Maksim, Saga, Benjamin, Jija, Jan Elisabeth, Birk, Anja & To You / 13 mins / Sweden & Norway / 2018 / Sam Hultin (Arabic, Norwegian & Swedish with English subtitles) How can we – trans & non-binary folks – find space in a world that constantly reminds us of violence? How can we get a break from what we have heard & experienced so many times & instead listen to stories about having fun, how we can change the world, & about love? Sam Hultin has interviewed people who are in love with a trans or non-binary person. The text that is read in the film is a collage of everyone’s story & a love letter to all trans & non-binary folks. ❤

To finish the weekend, please join us at the Moderna Exhibition – free entry for TFFS participants on 25 November (pick up your ticket at Brunch). The 2018 edition of the Moderna Exhibition presents the work of nearly 40 artists connected to the Swedish art scene, offering reflections on Swedish society today, on a natural world that is no longer what it once was, & a future that appears to have already begun. At 4pm, there is a performance by Dinis Machado, Site Specific for Nowhere.
